Informal Schooling in Home
Getting Public Homeschooling System for Home Usage
There are many ways to home school. Some people
take a formal approach and their homeschools are more like traditional
schools. Others take a more relaxed approach. This is informal
schooling in home.
What is informal
schooling at home? Some call it unschooling. John Holt was a huge
proponent of this. He felt that children learn in all sorts of different
situations and the best way to get them to learn is just to let them
do (with guidance form an adult).
Following John Holt’s methods may make homeschool
a spirited child much easier for a parent. He has written several
books on the subject of how children learn and teaching in an untraditional
way. There is no reason to turn you home into a traditional classroom.
While every homeschool requires books
and writing materials, you do not need to make it look like
a traditional classroom. After all, isn’t that what you are
trying to get away from? Informal schooling in home can also be
accomplished in other ways.
Perhaps your schedule dictates that there are only
3 days of school per week instead of 5. Another way to have informal
schooling in home is to tech without text books.

multiply, divide, understand fractions and basic measurements, tell
time, and use money without the aide of a textbook.
Want to teach length to a small child. Give them
a tape measure, show them how to use it and they will measure everything
in the house. Base your lesson plan on that. It is easy to have
an informal schooling in home environment.
This does not mean that your children should be
at home in front of the TV or playing video games all day. That
is not healthy and it accomplishes nothing. They need to be engaging
in educational activities.
Watching some TV or an educational DVD is fine
and it should be included in your lessons. Computer skills also
require mastery. A child can also get a tremendous amount of knowledge
by going to the beach and examining what lives in tide pools. Fishing
is also an educational experience.
So are nature walks or feeding the ducks at the
local park. When it comes to informal schooling in a home setting,
it means that there lots of learning going on in an untraditional
way. California has a public system for home schooling.

school curricula, just not at their facilities. Instead you
