Home Schooling Grants
Great Opportunity For homeschoolers
There are home schooling grants available for homeschooling
families. In order to discover what home schooling grant opportunities
are available to you an extensive and time consuming search must
be conducted.
In general you cannot ask the US government for grants for homeschoolers;
they do not have much available. So where do you find grants for homeschooling?
The fastest and easiest way to search is online. Home schooling grants
are not well publicized and although they do exist they are difficult
to find.
There are a few different types of home
schooling grants available so let’s look into what
they are. Corporate grants are where large corporations offer grants.
Many large corporations give grants on a regular basis to traditional
and charter schools.
Some of these grants are also available for home
schools but you have to know exactly what grants to apply for. IBM
has many grants available for education initiatives; however, none
are available for homeschoolers.
Wal-Mart on the other hand does offer grants for
homeschooling. You have to contact their education department and
talk to them about the grants. These are not well publicized and
you may have to talk to more than one person in order to get the
information you need.
Government home schooling grants do not exist per
se in the US. There are grants and scholarships available to homeschooled
graduates going to college, but there are no federal grants for
a homeschool family.
In Canada however the situation or federal
law is different. In British Columbia for example there is a
grant of $175 available for every child enrolled in a home school
by Sept. 30. The there are grants available to home schoolers from
home school groups. In Alaska there are grants available to every
home school student for textbooks.
This is a yearly grant. You will have to check
with your homeschool group if you are in Alaska and homeschool.
Every home schooler should have a home school support group that
they join. This is for many reasons. Ask your home school group
if they offer grants.
Some do, but it may be in the form of used textbooks
or other homeschooling
materials. Some may give cash, but not many.If your homeschool
group has 501 (c) 3 status under the US Tax code you may have a
better chance of getting a grant from them. The final place to look
for home schooling grants is through your local church or ministry.
Some of these organizations, especially if they
do not have a school themselves will be glad to donate books or
materials to help you with faith based learning.Again, you will
more than likely need to ask more than one group and many may do
it on a financial need basis.
So be prepared to discuss your family’s finances
when asking for grants. Home Schooling grants are out there. They
are just difficult to locate. Be persistent and extend your search
to every area you can think of. You may just find a grant you qualify
for.
