Affordable Home Schooling Online
Getting Home Schooling Within Budget
Homeschooling can be expensive. All of those curricula
cost money, and some are quite expensive. Even online, things can
get very pricy. If you are like most homeschoolers, then you are
a one income family.
One parent usually chooses to stay home and teach. One of the best
bargains in home schooling is the internet. You can find affordable
home schooling online.
Where do you find affordable home schooling
online?
There are many places to look. One of my favorites
is Donna Young’s website. She has a lot of free lessons and
lesson plans. If you are on a budget, this is a place to look.
Donna has many free lessons from math to handwriting
to science to history. Not only are there free lessons, but activities
as well.
Did you know she even has instruction
on how to make a chicken mummy?
This is great when studying ancient Egypt. Donna
Young’s free lessons can be found at http://www.donnayoung.org.
Another fabulous website that offers affordable
homeschooling online is The Finally Fun Homeschooling Curriculum.Although
it is not free, there are several options to choose from and if
you have more than one child to teach it is a steal.
This website has so many lessons and lesson plans
from unit studies to complete math, reading and science programs.
For example the entire Magic School Bus book series is available
along with study guides, lesson plans, vocabulary, parent notes
and more.
You can get the entire site for a 1 year subscription
or you can buy what you want individually. As of the writing of
this article they are offering the entire site for $97 USD.That
is a steal for over 200 math, science and history curricula.
This is your entire school year for any kindergarten
through middle school curriculum for very little. It may sound like
a lot, but I spent $200 for my child’s math curriculum alone.
The language arts were another $90.
See how fast it can add up?
I was sorry I did not know about it when I was
purchasing for school this year. You can find The Finally Fun Homeschooling
curriculum at http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=737798.
You can also use the internet to develop your own
affordable homeschooling curriculum. Affordable high school homeschooling
is a challenge.
High school students require certain courses that
not every parent is able to teach well. The supplies and space required
for certain classes like chemistry and biology require lab work.
Most homes are not set up for this type of homeschooling.
This is where you homeschool groups come in. Online groups like
those found at Yahoogroups.com can be a great resource.
You will be able to join a local group and see
who is offering courses near you. Lots of homeschool families earn
a little extra income through teaching classes.
You may be able to find a biology class or chemistry
class that meets your state requirements for credit. There are also
cyber home schooling courses that can be done completely online
and you submit the completed lesson and receive a grade.
Homeschooling online can be great if you find an
affordable high school and it is accredited. Then, although you
“homeschool” you child is technically enrolled in a
non-homeschool and this may actually benefit you if your state has
stringent requirements.
Overall, affordable home schooling can be found
online. You just have to take the time to research. The great thing
about homeschool is that if something does not work for you, it
is easy to change. Other schooling options do not have that flexibility.
